LAHORE, Sept 21: Punjab Information Technology Minister Abdul Aleem Khan has said that the provincial government was considering starting more projects with Chinese assistance.

Inaugurating a three-day Chinese Commodities Exhibition at the Fortress Stadium Expo Centre here on Thursday, he said China had been offered 44 acres of land in Sundar Industrial Estate for investment.

The Punjab government had also developed cordial relations with governments in Jiangsu and Sichuan provinces of China and sent a delegation of 200 businessmen for participation in a trade fair in Kashgar.

He said the Chinese commodities had a big market the world over. Pakistan had friendly relations with China and had completed a number of important development projects, including the Karakoram Highway, Heavy Mechanical Complex, Gwadar Port, Thar Coal Power Project and Chashma Nuclear Power Plant with its assistance.

Hosiery makers: Adil Butt was on Thursday elected chairman and Naeem Ahmad and Pervaiz Iqbal vice-chairmen of the Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association, north zone, unopposed.

Mr Butt told the zonal committee after his election that the hosiery had become a leading export-oriented industry of the country by earning $1.73 billion through exports during the last financial year.

He urged the hosiery manufacturers to make efforts to benefit from globalisation by improving the quality of their products by acquiring new technology instead of being afraid of it.
