Punjab win hockey gold in Games

LAHORE, Sept 18: Punjab clinched the gold medal in the hockey event of 2nd Inter-Provincial Games after beating Balochistan 2-1 in the last league match at the National Hockey Stadium on Monday.

Punjab won all its three matches, having earlier beaten NWFP 10-0 and Sindh 5-3.

Rashid put Punjab in lead in the 48th minute by converting a penalty corner.

Balochistan restored the parity three minutes later when Shahzad scored a field goal.

Punjab again got ascendancy when Raja Abdur Rehman scored the match-winner in the 65th minute.

In the second match NWFP held Sindh to a 3-3 draw. Saleem gave Sindh an early lead when he struck in the 6th minute.

NWFP scored th equalizer, three minutes later, through Navid Khan. Sindh again earned lead (2-1) in the 19th minute when Rizwan converted a penalty corner.

NWFP again caught up the rival making the score 2-2 through Fawad in the 22nd minute.

Now again it was Sindh's turn scoring a goal through Riasat in the 30th minute to make it 3-2. But in the dying minute Fawad scored the equaliser denying Sindh a win.
