Punjab, NWFP in U-16 hockey final

LAHORE, Feb 12: Defending champions Punjab and NWFP qualified for the final of the Inter-provincial under-16 hockey championship at the end of the knock out stage at the National Hockey Stadium Tuesday.

The final will be played Wednesday at 11am. Earlier, Islamabad and Azad Kashmir will play for third position at 9am.

Punjab trounced Islamabad 14-0 with Mohammad Zubair scoring five goals. Half time score was 7-0.

Besides Muhammad Zubair, the other scorers for the winners were Ghulam Abbas (3), Inayatullah (2) while Amjad Ali, Zaheer Ahmed, Aasim Shafiq and Muhammad Ishtiaq put in one goal each.

NWFP crushed Azad Kashmir 19-1 after taking 7-1 lead at half time.

Zeeshan scored five goals while Khalid Bostan and Yasir netted four goals each. Barkatullah (2) and Khalaq Zaman, Sajjad, Mumtaz Ali Shah and Saleem added one goal each.

For the losers, the consolation goal was scored by Zahid.
