KARACHI, Sept 10: Jamaat-i-Islami Sindh Amir Dr Mumtaz Memon has condemned attempt on the life of the former city nazim Niamatullah Khan in Hyderabad by what he called “MQM terrorists” in which three workers of the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) were injured.

Speaking at an emergency press conference at Idara Noor-i-Haq on Sunday night, he gave details of the incident and demanded of the government to take notice forthwith as such actions of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) would only hamper Al-Khidmat Welfare Society’s relief activities in the rain-hit areas.

Dr Memon said that during the recent torrential rains, interior parts of Sindh particularly Thatta, Sanghar and Hyderabad were badly affected, so in order to provide relief to the suffering brethren, Al-Khidmat Welfare Society had sent teams in different areas of the province, where ration was distributed and relief camps were established.

The JI leader informed that a team led by MPA Yunus Barai visited Tando Allahyar and Jhudo in this connection while Niamatullah Khan soon after arriving from Islamabad left for Hyderabad to assess the relief activities.

Unfolding details of the incident, Mr Memon said that Naimatullah Khan was present at the house of Jamaat-i-Islami Secretary Fawad Ahmad, when Muttahida Qaumi Movement sector incharge along with 20 armed men arrived their and fired blank shots and manhandled JI workers in which three workers got seriously injured.

They also destroyed the vehicle of Niamatullah Khan and damaged an ambulance busy in relief work.

Dr Memon accused that the police failed to respond promptly and later arrested our injured workers.

However after three-hour encirclement of the house when the attackers left the place, Mr Naimat visited the affected areas and set up relief and distributed relief goods among affected people.

The JI leader pointed out that Al-Khidmat Welfare Society was a social organization, which always served affected people without any discrimination and its services were duly recognised during the recent earthquake relief activities even at the international level.
