KARACHI, Sept 6: The All-Pakistan Professors and Lecturers Association on Wednesday announced to observe a “black-day” on Sept 15 all over the country against the ban on teachers unions and association by Sindh government and victimization of teachers in the province.

A decision to this affect was taken at a meeting of the APPLA, with APPLA President Prof Siraj Ahmed Kakar, in the chair here in Karachi.

During the meeting, APPLA announced that more than 30,000 college teachers all over the country will perform their duties by wearing black armbands in protest against humiliation of teachers by the Sindh government.

The meeting observed that without citing any reason, ban on teachers' unions and associations by the Sindh government was completely unjust, against basic human rights and the constitutional and policy of victimization of teachers.

The APPLA also condemned false cases against the teachers arrested by the police, observing that Investigative Officer of Artillery Maidan Police submitted forged FIR before the judicial magistrate and hence violated the sanctity of the court.

They demanded withdrawal of the ban on teachers unions and associations in Sindh, all orders regarding sending teachers on forced leave, show-cause notices and termination orders of teachers, warning that failure to meet their demands will have serious consequences for the authorities.

APPLA office-bearers, including PPLA president Prof Nazim Hassnain, SPLA president Prof Syed Riaz Ahsan, Sarhad College Teachers Association president Prof Sabz Ali Khan, BPLA general secretary Prof Mohammad Ishaq Bajoi and many others from all over the country also attended the meeting.—PPI
