KARACHI, Sept 4: The Al-Khidmat group in the City District Council has called for holding an emergency session of the council to discuss various issues pertaining to the city, particularly the post-monsoon situation which caused great devastation because of inadequate arrangements by the city government.

This demand was made by the group leader Rafiq Ahmed in a letter faxed to the naib nazim of the City District Council, requesting that an emergency meeting of the council be summoned to discuss the performance of the city government during the monsoon rains.

The meeting should also take into consideration the precautionary measures before monsoon and the resultant damages caused to the city’s infrastructure, public life and property.

Earlier, the council meeting scheduled to be held on Aug 31 had been postponed on the request of 83 councilors belonging to the Haq Parast group expressing their inability to attend the session as they were too occupied in the cleanliness activities in their areas.

However, the opposition members criticised the step taken by the treasury benches and termed it unlawful, a charge denied by the Haq Parast group.
