HYDERABAD, Aug 31: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has sought proposals for inter-taluka development schemes from nazims concerned so that projects proposed by them could be discussed in the next meeting of the Zila Mushawarti Committees.

Presiding over a meeting of the committee at the nazim secretariat here on Wednesday, he said that under the local government system, union councils and town municipal administrations could not perform the responsibility of higher local governments but TMAs and district governments could help their lower units such as UCs ,respectively.

Lauding the devolved system of the government, the nazim said responsibilities of union councils (UCs), taluka municipal administrations (TMAs) and district governments had been bifurcated with delegation of powers to each entity under the Sindh Local Government Ordinance with a view to get basic problems of the people solved at gross-root level with the actual participation of the people.

He said the purpose of the committee was to consider all development schemes, especially those beyond the capacity of lower entities but beneficial for the common people. Besides, this committee serves as common platform for mutual coordination to avoid duplication in development works.

He said the Hyderabad district government had been implementing inter taluka development schemes and was engaged in preparation of other uplift projects beneficial for all the talukas of the district and for other districts as well.

Giving details of such schemes, the nazim said the Hyderabad district government was planning to establish an amusement forest on 1000 acres of land and a safari park on 100 acres separately.

He said the development of Rani Bagh Hyderabad was another project was being implemented by the district government at its revised estimated cost of Rs70 million.
