KARACHI, Aug 20: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Sunday gave approval to the setting up of the Sindh Industrial Infrastructure Board.

The eight-member board would help improve performance of the existing industrial estates in the province, besides suggesting ways and mean to reactivate sick industrial units and look into the future needs of industrial sector.

The board, with Sindh minister for labour, transport and commerce being its chairman, would also help in the installation of combined effluent treatment plants. At present, no industrial estate in Sindh has such a plant.

The chief minister has also given approval to the proposal for giving financial and administrative powers to the Department of Land Utilisation. This would help lessen the workload of the department and further improve its performance.

Separately, the chief minister gave approval to the setting up of a sugar mill by Ghotki Sugar Mills in the katcha area of Ghotki district.

He hoped that the move would encourage others to set up more industries in Ghotki, which was a backward area, and thus help fight poverty and unemployment in the local population.

Rs200m for islands: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Sunday approved an amount of Rs200 million for water supply and drainage facilities in Baba Bhit, Shamspir and Younis Abad islands of Keamari Town.

On the occasion, he wondered that people of the islands had been kept deprived of basic civic facilities in the past, and said his government was committed to provide basic facilities to masses.

He said the government would utilise its full potential and energy to serve the masses.—PPI
