KARACHI, Aug 17: The Community Development Department of the City District Government Karachi has formally upgraded the stitching centre of the women's central jail Karachi as an industrial home.

City naib nazim Nasreen Jalil on Thursday inaugurated the industrial home.

Speaking on the occasion, the city naib nazim said they were thankful to the President for passing the Ordinance under which women prisoners were being released.

“Role of women in progress is of much importance”, she observed and stated that the city government, keeping this in view, had turned the stitching centre in the women jail into an industrial home.

Women prisoners would improve their skills here and live a honourable life after their release, she added.

She stated that the government had given due honour and status to women which had brought positive output in society.EDO Community Development Rehana Saif announced setting up of a library for women prisoners in the women's jail soon, adding these prisoners were also being given computer training with formal education.

Superintendent Jail Shiba Shah informed that 113 women prisoners were there in the jail, and of them 68 were foreigners.

Later, the city naib nazim distributed prizes among women prisoners and their children on behalf of the Community Development department. Nighat Javed and Huma Bukhari were also present.—PPI
