KARACHI, Aug 11: The law and order obtaining in the province was reviewed at a high level meeting held at the Governor’s House here on Friday with Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad in the chair.

The meeting was attended by Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui, Special Home Secretary Rasheed Alam, Principal Secretary Mohammed Saleem Khan, Provincial Police Officer Jehangir Mirza and other officials.

The authorities briefed the governor about the arrangements made for the Independence Day celebrations.

The governor emphasised on maintaining conducive conditions and making foolproof security arrangements on the occasion.

He issued directive to police and other departments for extending full cooperation in regard to the steps taken for protection from a possible flood threat.

He said there should be mutual liaison between all organisations, particularly for shifting of people to safer places and ensuring a smooth communication system.

The meeting discussed the strategy to control street crimes, and in this context, the governor stressed on a better intelligence network and its effective enforcement.

He issued directive for continuity of action against gambling and betting, narcotic dens and screening of obscene films. He made it clear that these dens were a source of waywardness, frustration and declining moral values affecting the youth badly.

Reviewing the law and order situation in the interior of Sindh, Dr Ibad called for concrete measures to protect Shah Belo area from criminal activities and to check the recurrence of such activities there.—APP
