KARACHI, Aug 10: Fishing boat owners at the Karachi Fish Harbour have been asked to modify their boats in accordance with the European Union specifications before the deadline.

The directives were issued by the implantation committee constituted for the development of the fish harbour which met here on Thrsday. The committee is also tasked with maintaining strict hygiene for seafood export.

The fishing boat owners were informed that the boat modifications were vital for revamping the fisheries sector, adding that the country’s seafood exports could not be enhanced without boat modifications.

The committee also called for improving sanitation at the Karachi Fish Harbour as it was another requirement of EU to ensure quality and hygienic seafood export.

Adviser to the CM for Fisheries and Chairman of the Fishermen’s Cooperative Society Fakir Jaddam Mangrio presided over the meeting.

The committee directed the authorities concerned to complete the development works at the harbour as soon as possible.—APP
