SRINAGAR, Aug 3: Police in occupied Kashmir on Thursday announced rewards and government jobs for people who help capture militants involved in grenade attacks.

“Those who spill the blood of innocent people by hurling grenades in towns and busy markets are enemies of humanity,” said an advertisement in the Greater Kashmir newspaper.

“Anyone who overpowers them and hands them over to police or provides information leading to their arrest will be given Rs100,000 cash and a government job,” the ad said.

The advertisement in Urdu promised to keep the identity of informants secret.

Since January there have been over 100 grenade attacks in Kashmir that have left 40 people dead and nearly 400 hurt.

Senior federal police officer D.R. Ojha said militants were attacking tourists to create a ‘panic-like situation’ in Kashmir.—AFP
