KARACHI, Aug 3: The Heads and Teachers Welfare Associations Alliance (HTWAA), a conglomerate of 17 associations of teachers, criticised Sindh Education Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro for imposing ban on teachers’ associations.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, HTWAA Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan and Secretary-General Aneesur Rahman said all the steps taken by the education minister were against the promotion of education.

They also criticised her for extending summer vacations in Sindh, saying her "illogical" decisions were adding to the problems of the parents, students and teachers.

"Despite spending billions of rupees, the standard of education is declining in Sindh, while the education department is appointing incompetent but favourites on important posts" they charged and added that the ban on associations was aimed at eliminating the role of watchdogs of education department's performance.--PPI
