ISLAMABAD, Feb 10: Pakistan Hockey Federation is making efforts to hire Dutch physio Rens for this month’s World Cup in Kuala Lumpur.

Team manager Brig. Khalid Sajjad Khokhar told Dawn that he was hopeful the Dutchman would be able to join the team in Singapore where Pakistan stop over to play warm-up matches before moving on to Kuala Lumpur.

“We are keen to have him because he knows the boys and served us well in last November’s Champions Trophy in Rotterdam,” Khalid said.

“Since the World Cup will be a long, hard tournament, a top physio would be a great help,” he added.

The World Cup which runs from Feb 24 to March 9 features 16 teams.

Pakistan’s “Dutch connection” helped them win the Sydney World Cup in 1994 when Dutch coach Hans Jorritsma along with Abdul Rasheed Junior guided the team to a memorable victory.
