LAWYERS ABOVE THE LAW: It has been observed that lawyers are actively installing the Sindh High Court (SHC) emblem to cover the number plates of their vehicles in order to bypass the e-challan system. When a common man is penalised for traffic violations, why are the lawyers allowed to get away with such violations? Being the custodians of law, the lawyers are supposed to follow the law. If stopped and confronted by law-enforcement agencies, lawyers gang up with their fellow members of the bar. The higher-ups managing the Sindh Bar Council must ask its members to stop this practice before these violations spiral out of control and tarnish the image of the whole fraternity.

CHROMEBOOK SCHEME: The recent launch of the Prime Minister’s Youth Chromebook Scheme is a commendable step. However, it does not address our most urgent educational crises. Millions of children still lack access to basic classrooms, boundary walls, clean drinking water and qualified teachers. Many more remain entirely untouched by secondary education. Handing out high-tech devices while foundational infrastructure crumbles risks widening the gap between privileged urban setups and neglected public schools. Instead of treating digital device distribution as a standalone quick-fix, the government must rebuild the foundational infrastructure and enrol out-of-school children first, ensuring that digital tools are integrated into our education system.

ONE OR MULTIPLE UNITS: Pakistan needs a strong local government system with power vested in the elected re-presentatives. Given our tragic history, it would be wise not to indulge in further experimentations. Pakistan has suffered ever since it started deviating from the vision of the Quaid-i-Azam. The introduction of One Unit scheme, which was formally enacted in the mid-1950s, was a cardinal mistake. The country has surely suffered enough. Let us ensure that Jinnah’s Pakistan is revived in letter and in spirit.
