KARACHI, Aug 2: The rainwater which entered various bungalows and in ground floor apartments of a building in Bath Island’s Gulshan-i-Faisal on Sunday has not yet been drained out.

The houses and all the ground floor apartments of a ground-plus-two story apartment building “Vijay Nagar” are located on street Nos 8 and 9 of Bath Island’s Gulshan-i-Faisal.

Residents of the affected houses said although they lodged at least 70 complaints with `134’ and also made over 10 phone calls to the concerned officials of Saddar Town and the city government, they have not yet succeeded in resolving the lingering issue.

They said rain and sewage mixed water has entered their houses and has created unhygienic condition and damaged their furniture, and they have to wade through dirty water in their houses.

“The mental agonies with which we are passing through since Sunday cannot be explained as our houses are still flooded with rainwater, leaving no choice for us but to commit suicide,” remarked an elderly person of the locality, Mr Mohammad Roshan.

Accusing the authorities concerned of playing a role of silent spectator, he said “isn’t it an irony that we can neither offer prayers, nor we can use bathrooms as they are flooded with rainwater, whereas our drawing room is presenting the scene of a pond.”

Another jittery resident of the locality, Mr Anand, said a patient who lives in the affected apartment building had been facing immense difficulties in going to and from hospital as drivers of ambulances are reluctant to enter the compound of the building which is heavily flooded with rainwater.

He apprehended that the old apartment building “Vijay Nagar” might collapse as its pillars are submerged in rainwater four the last four days.

He urged the authorities to take measures for draining out water from its compound as well as its ground floor apartments and to save the occupants of the apartments from mental agonies.
