LAHORE: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on Tuesday claimed to have arrested eight suspects, including two women, in a raid on an “illegal” call centre here.

According to NCCIA Lahore Additional Director Atif Ameer, a team raided a house in Block 1, Sector A-2, Township, after obtaining a search warrant from the competent court.

The agency says that according to preliminary investigations, the call centre operated under an “AT&T campaign,” offering British citizens discounts on mobile phone upgrades, SIM-only packages, and other telecom incentives.

“Using dial-up software, the suspects would make calls to overseas citizens, obtain their financial information, and extract money through illegal transactions and advance fees,” it says.

It says that eight individuals — six men and two women — were arrested during the operation.

The NCCIA also confiscated 53 digital devices, including 28 laptops, 10 desktop computers, and 15 mobile phones during the raid.
