GILGIT: Chief Judge of the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court Justice Ali Baig has sought daily progress reports in the investigation of the case pertaining to the murder of four members of a family in Skardu.

According to an official statement, the bereaved family members appealed to the chief judge of GB Chief Court Ali Baig for justice during a recent meeting. He assured them that all possible measures would be taken within the ambit of the law to ensure a transparent and impartial investigation.

Under the orders issued with the chief judge’s approval, Skardu SSP (Investigations) has been directed to ensure impartial, expeditious investigation, with a directive to submit daily progress reports on the investigation to the registrar of the GB chief court.

The order stated that these daily reports shall continue to be submitted without interruption, through the registrar of the chief court, for the chief judge’s perusal until further orders, enabling him to personally monitor the progress of the investigation.

Earlier on Monday, GB police arrested two prime suspects from Kurram in connection with the murder of four family members in Skardu on Oct 30.

A GB police spokesperson said a special team, in coordination with Kurram Police, apprehended the suspects, who were being shifted to GB for further investigation and legal proceedings. Efforts are underway to arrest other suspects, with police also coordinating with authorities in Peshawar, Lahore and Karachi.

A special investigation team, headed by the Baltistan DIG and comprising senior CTD and Skardu police officials, has been constituted to probe the case.

The victims were identified as Aslam, 35, his wife Hania, 30, and their children, four-year-old Mehdi and two-year-old Dua Zehra. They were found murdered inside their home.

Police suspect the killings may have been motivated by an honour-related dispute over their marriage. An FIR has been registered against suspected relatives of the deceased woman. Investigators believe the suspects travelled to Skardu, carried out the killings with a sharp-edged weapon and fled to Lahore by air the following morning.
