BAJAUR: Police have arrested a seminary teacher for allegedly beating a student to death in Bajaur district, officials said on Tuesday.

They added that the teacher of a seminary in the Qazafi Bandagi area of Utmankhel tehsil, who had fled after allegedly beating his student to death inside the madressah, was arrested during a raid conducted after the incident came to light.

Taking notice of the death of a 12-year-old child, Regional Police Officer, Malakand Division, Zahid Nawaz ordered the arrest of the suspect. A team from Utmankhel police station, led by District Police Officer Khan Zeb Mohmand, arrested him during a raid, according to a statement.

The statement said that the raiding party led by SHO Utmankhel police station Mustafa Kamal arrested the suspect at a place where he had fled after committing the crime. The suspect had been shifted to the police station for legal proceedings after a first information report (FIR) was registered against him under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

An investigation into the tragic incident was underway to ensure the suspect was punished as per the law.

“The death of an innocent child at the hands of his teacher inside a seminary is a tragic and horrific incident. The police stand with the bereaved family in this difficult time to ensure immediate justice for them,” the statement quoted the DPO as saying.

According to the FIR, the body of the deceased, identified as Arshad, a resident of the Mandal area of Salarzai tehsil, was found inside the mosque/seminary.
