SUKKUR: Four people, including two women, were killed in an attack and counter attack involving two families belonging to the Dahani community in Garhi Khero taluka of Jacobabad district on Sunday.

According to officials at the Miranpur Buriro police station, a preliminary inquiry suggested that the two sides first engaged in a heated argument over the alleged theft of a weapon (Kalashnikov). Its owner, Ali Hassan Dahani alias Loto, believed that the weapon was stolen by Mohammad Iqbal, the son of his tenant, Jatoi Dahani, who then allegedly shot dead Ali Hassan. The latter’s daughter, Razia Dahani, who was accompanying him, also received fatal bullet wounds, the officials said.

In retaliation, they added, Ali Hassan’s relatives attacked Jatoi’s home and shot dead, Mumtaz, son of Mohammad Iqbal, and Rizwana, daughter of Mumtaz. Iqbal’s other son, Abdul Latif, was wounded in the attack.

Meanwhile, Jacobabad SSP retired Captain Faizan Ali ordered police teams from all police stations of Garhi Khero to rush to the village and prevent further bloodshed.

The victims were taken to the Garhi Khero Taluka Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The police arrested some suspects and claimed to have recovered weapons from their possession.
