GUJRAT: A suspect involved in raping a six-year-old girl was allegedly killed by the firing of his own accomplices during an encounter with the police in Wazirabad on Sunday.

A Gujranwala Police spokesperson said that the suspect Junaid had been arrested for being involved in raping a six-year-old girl of Sohdra.

He claimed a police team was on its way back to the police station after getting the potency test done at a hospital when two unidentified armed motorcyclists intercepted the team and started firing to free the suspect from police custody.

The armed suspects fled the scene and the rape suspect was found dead by the firing of his own accomplices, the spokesperson claimed.

The deceased suspect had previously been involved in raping minor girls and had also remained in the jail in 2020 and 2022 in two such cases, he added.

Police claimed to have recovered the illegal pistol from the scene and started investigations after registering a case.

Meanwhile, the Gujranwala Police claimed to have arrested two suspects in injured condition while attempting to flee police pickets in Nowshera Virkan and Aroop police precincts in Gujranwala district.

Police claimed suspect Shahbaz was wanted in narcotics cases, whereas suspect Hamza was wanted in motorbike theft cases at Aroop police station.
