KARACHI: A man accused of stealing over 50 mobile phones from women after luring them to a farmhouse in Gadap under the pretext of job interviews on Oct 1 was on Tuesday beaten by the aggrieved when he was brought to a Malir court by police on Tuesday.

The investigating officer of the case produced suspect Babar alias Sahil Salman before a judicial magistrate and sought his remand to recover the remaining mobile phones. The magistrate remanded the suspect in police custody for one day.

A number of the affected women were present at the premises. In a video, the women could be seen asking the police to show the suspect’s face, gathering around him and then proceeding to beat him with slippers and slap him. As the suspect tried to move away, the group of women could be seen chasing him until the police took him inside a room.

A case was registered at the Gadap police station under Section 379 (punishment for theft), 420 (cheating and dishonestly Inducing delivery of property) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
