LAHORE: A lineman of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) was seriously injured in an alleged attack in Mianwali Basti (Chuhng subdivision) during a crackdown on electricity theft and defaulters.

According to a Lesco spokesperson, a team led by Sub Divisional Officer Chaudhry Mohammad Shehbaz, reached the area to initiate legal action against consumer Billah Maqsood Jatt, who allegedly owed around Rs300,000 in outstanding electricity bills and was also suspected of power theft.

The spokesperson said the consumer, along with several other people, suddenly attacked the lineman. The assailants allegedly struck him on the head with an ice pick, leaving him seriously injured and bleeding.

Lesco authorities took notice of the incident and initiated legal proceedings against the alleged attackers.

Meanwhile, in a statement, Lesco Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Ramzan Butt said legal action would be taken against those involved in attacks on field staff.
