ISLAMABAD: A criminal case has been registered against four police officials, including a former station house officer, along with two other persons over their alleged involvement in looting cash and valuables worth over Rs1.4 million besides detaining a man illegally.

The case has been registered at the Sumbal police station under sections 506ii (punishment for criminal intimidation: if threat be to cause death or grievous hurt, etc), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 190 (threat of injury to induce person to refrain from applying for protection to public servant), 166 (public servant disobeying law with intent to cause injury to any person) and 167 (public servant framing an incorrect document with intent to cause injury) in response to a complaint lodged by Owais Butt.

The incident took place at the Dera of Owais Butt in Sector F-12 on Aug 19.

According to the FIR, a guest of Mr Owais informed him on phone that his servants had a quarrel with the neighbours. In response, his cousin Khawar Butt reached the Dera and found the police officials along with two other persons searching the premises and breaking the doors.

The SHO held his cousin at gunpoint and snatched a mobile phone from him when Mr Khawar objected to the police acts. Later, they allegedly looted cash Rs475,000 and valuables worth Rs1million. The suspects also took Mr Khawar to the police station and released him the next morning.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Owais alleged that the police also registered a fake brawl case against him. The next day he approached a court and obtained bail before arrest.

The court later quashed the case after the complainant expressed ignorance about it, he said. Later, he approached the court and submitted a petition seeking orders for the registration of a case against the police officials and others. Despite the court’s order, the police did not register the case. Mr Owais then moved the Islamabad High Court which also ordered the police to register the case and the FIR was registered.
