KCCI general secretary accused of withholding audit report

KHYBER: Some office-bearers of Khyber Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) have accused the chamber’s general secretary of not sharing the annual audit report and other necessary documents with them.

Addressing a news conference at Jamrud Press Club, KCCI president Yousaf Afridi, along with senior vice-president Wajid Ali and others, claimed several reminders had been given to the chamber’s general secretary, Naqash Ali, to share the annual record with the cabinet members, but to no effect.

The KCCI president said that the general secretary had held the office for the last eight years, adding that he withheld the audit record and other important documents without any valid reason.

Mr Afridi said that sharing of the audit report and annual record was a prerequisite before the new elections of the chamber, but these documents could not be obtained despite the fact that elections were held in September.

He further alleged that the Directorate General of Trade Organisation had also directed the KCCI general secretary to abide by the cabinet’s decision regarding sharing of the annual record with the members, but to no avail.

Mr Afridi alleged that some traders and businessmen from other districts were sowing discord among the KCCI members while unlawfully backing the ‘renegade’ general secretary and concealing the important documents in order to discredit the chamber.

Meanwhile, general secretary Naqash Ali, through his sources, informed the KCCI cabinet that he had not only resigned from his office but had also handed over the entire record to traders, Sayed Ali Faisal and Sayed Jawad Ali Kazmi.

The two traders could not be approached for their comments, while the KCCI cabinet members insisted that both these persons were not residents of Khyber and, in fact, belonged to Kurram district, where they had their own chamber.
