LAHORE: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested a suspect for allegedly threatening minors to sell their private pictures and videos on pornographic websites.

NCCIA Lahore Zone Additional Director Atif Ameer told reporters on Saturday that suspect Umair Wilayat had been arrested near Pakistan Mint in Shalimar Town and his two mobile phones had been taken into custody.

According to the investigation, the suspect contacted minors through social media platforms and obtained their objectionable pictures and videos to blackmail them. He threatened to sell the content on pornographic websites to make money.

The agency said examination of the data of seized phones showed conversations containing evidence of blackmail and attempts to gain financial benefits through objectionable material. Details of multiple email accounts and social media account credentials were found saved in a password manager on the phone.

A case has been registered against the suspect under Peca.

Meanwhile, the NCCIA also arrested a man for allegedly spreading fake and derogatory content against state institutions and government figures on social media.

It said the suspect had been using social media to spread “fake and derogatory” material targeting state institutions and government personalities.

A mobile phone was recovered from the suspect and, during initial examination, the agency claimed to have found evidence of transmission of objectionable material through WhatsApp.
