Body of paraglider who saved teenager’s life during a fire incident sent to Peshawar for last rites
Jhang District Information Officer Riaz Marth said the rally had been organised in collaboration with private sponsors. He added that the event had received appreciation from provincial government authorities.
Paraglider’s body
Meanwhile, the body of renowned paraglider Qazi Zafar Khan was sent by the Jhang district administration to his home in Peshawar on Saturday night.
He died after his glider caught fire shortly after take-off during a cultural festival organised alongside the jeep rally on Saturday.
Mr Marth told reporters on Sunday that the deceased was an experienced paraglider who held a paragliding licence issued by the Civil Aviation Authority.
He added that he and a few officers had also flown with Mr Khan, while a number of passengers had enjoyed flights. However, the fire incident occurred due to a suspected technical fault.
Mr Marth paid tribute to the deceased, saying he had “courageously thrown down a 14-year-old child to save his life” from the glider but had been unable to free himself from the belts. As a result, the paraglider suffered critical burns and later succumbed to his injuries.
He said the child had been referred by the Jhang District Headquarters Hospital to Faisalabad’s Allied Hospital for treatment.
Quoting Jhang Deputy Commissioner Babar Sahibdin, Mr Marth said nothing could make up for the loss of Qazi Zafar Khan, but his family would be provided with financial assistance.
