KARACHI: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on Friday claimed to have arrested a suspect allegedly involved in cyber harassment, online defamation and misuse of AI-generated images.

“The suspect has been arrested in Gulistan-i-Jauhar for his alleged involvement in the harassment, defamation and character assassination of a female complainant through social media platforms,” said an NCCIA spokesperson.

According to the initial investigation, the suspect allegedly created fake Facebook and Instagram accounts and used them to upload and circulate AI-generated, digitally manipulated and superimposed images of the woman.

A case has been registered against him under Sections 16 (unauthorised use of identity information), 20 (offences against dignity of a natural person) and 24 (cyber stalking) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca), 2016, as amended in 2025.

The spokesperson said that further investigation was underway to ascertain the full extent of the unlawful activities and identify any other individuals involved.
