KARACHI: A sessions court on Friday acquitted alleged drug baroness Anmol alias Pinky for lack of evidence in two more narcotics cases.
The two cases were registered at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Gizri police stations in 2018 and 2021, respectively. She has been acquitted in five cases so far.
Anmol had been declared an absconder in both the cases, which remained dormant until she was formally arrested in May this year in connection with two cases registered at the Garden police station involving the alleged possession of drugs and an unlicensed weapon.
After her arrest, the old cases were reopened, and supplementary charge sheets were submitted by the respective investigating officers.
Alleged drug baroness to remain behind bars as over a dozen other cases against her still pending
She was subsequently indicted in the two narcotics cases. Later, she filed separate applications seeking acquittal under Section 265-K (power of court to acquit accused at any stage) of the criminal procedure code before the sessions court.
On Friday, the additional district and sessions judge (South), who heard arguments on her acquittal pleas at the Judicial Complex inside Karachi central prison, exonerated the accused in both cases for lack of evidence and directed jail authorities to release her if she was not required in any other case.
In August, a sessions court had acquitted Anmol in three old narcotics cases registered at the Gizri police station.
However, she will remain in custody as, according to the prosecution, she has been nominated in over a dozen cases, including a murder case registered in Karachi.
The prosecution also alleged that she had been involved in drug trafficking for the last 16 years and that she used to supply narcotic substances in posh areas, as well as among university and school students.
