KARACHI: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi on Friday paid rich tribute to Shaheed-i-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan on his 75th death anniversary, describing his national services, sacrifices and historic struggle for Pakistan as an unforgettable chapter in the country’s history that continues to inspire generations.
He visited the mausoleum of the country’s first prime minister, laid a floral wreath and offered fateha.
Speaking to the media after the visit, he said Liaquat Ali Khan played a historic and decisive role alongside Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah during the Pakistan Movement, standing shoulder to shoulder with the founder of the nation in the struggle for a separate homeland.
Mr Hashmi said that following the establishment of Pakistan, the slain prime minister rendered invaluable and selfless services to strengthen, organise and consolidate the newly founded state at a time when the country faced enormous administrative, financial and political challenges.
“His political insight, principled leadership, integrity, honesty and deep-rooted patriotism continue to serve as a guiding light for the nation,” he said, adding that despite extremely challenging circumstances, the country’s first prime minister had remained firmly committed to national unity, stability of the federation and promotion of democratic traditions.
The governor said that the martyrdom of Liaquat Ali Khan on October 16, 1951, was a great tragedy and an irreparable loss in the nation’s history; however, his contributions and sacrifices would always be remembered with reverence. “His life stands as a shining example of unwavering determination, honesty and dedication to national service,” he added.
Emphasising the significance of the occasion, Mr Hashmi said that the day reminds the nation to remain steadfast in the ideals, vision and principles of its founding leaders and to uphold their legacy.
He said that unity, discipline, a strong sense of national responsibility and promotion of democratic values were essential prerequisites for Pakistan’s progress, prosperity and stability.
Also on Friday, an exhibition marking the death anniversary of Liaquat Ali Khan was held at the National Museum of Pakistan.
