KARACHI: Police claimed to have arrested two suspects after the body of a missing man was found on the outskirts of the metropolis on Friday.

Malir SSP Dr Abdul Khaliq Pirzada said the main suspect, Faisal, was a close relative of the victim, Zainul Abideen, and had allegedly orchestrated the kidnapping and murder over an issue involving a woman.

The senior police officer said Zainul Abideen had left his home within the limits of Steel Town police station on the morning of Oct 14. Subsequently, his father received a ransom call demanding Rs500,000.

The officer said the victim’s maternal cousin, Faisal, paid the purported ransom and brought one of Zain’s severed hands to his parents.

Seeing that, the officer said, Faisal was taken into custody. During interrogation, he reportedly revealed that the case was not one of kidnapping for ransom. Instead, Faisal and the deceased, Zain, were emotionally attached to a woman and there was a dispute going on. During interrogation, Faisal allegedly confessed to killing Zain over the same dispute.

The SSP said that, on a lead provided by the arrested suspect, Zain’s body was recovered from a garbage dump within the limits of Bin Qasim police station. He added that Faisal’s alleged accomplice, Ansar, had also been arrested.

The victim’s father, Mohammed Khan, reportedly told the media that Zain worked as a tailor in Saudi Arabia and had recently returned to Pakistan.
