QUETTA: Balochistan Home Minister Ziaullah Langove said on Thursday that there would be no compromise on maintaining peace and order and ensuring security in the province.

Presiding over a meeting to review the law and order situation in Qila Abdullah district, Mr Langove said the provincial government was taking all possible steps to fulfil its basic responsibilities, including maintaining law and order, combating drug abuse and trafficking, and protecting citizens’ lives and property.

A day earlier, opposition and treasury members had expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Qila Abdullah, a district bordering Afghanistan, during a session of the Balochistan Assembly.

The meeting was attended by MPA Engineer Zamarak Khan Achakzai, Additional Home Secretary Hamza Shafqaat, the inspector general of prisons, the Qila Abdullah deputy commissioner, Pishin District Police Officer Khalil Bugti and other relevant officials.

Participants reviewed the overall law and order situation in Qila Abdullah. Relevant officials briefed the meeting on security measures being implemented in the area and the challenges they faced.

“Protecting citizens’ lives and property is the government’s top priority,” Mr Langove said, adding that further measures were being taken against those involved in kidnapping, drug trafficking and other illegal activities threatening law and order in the area.

He said security forces were also conducting intelligence-based operations (IBOs) against terrorists in Qila Abdullah and other parts of the province to provide a peaceful environment for residents.
