RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Airports Authority has decided to install a “Low-Level Wind Shear System” at Islamabad International Airport to measure changes in wind speed and direction, relaying real-time warnings to Air Traffic Control.
A spokesman for the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said in a press release that Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has taken an important step towards aviation safety and the modernisation of the air navigation system with the installation of LLWS at Islamabad International Airport.
In this regard, Pakistan Airports Authority signed two agreements to improve aviation security and communication systems. The system is a ground-based network that detects sudden changes in wind speed and direction.
A new alert system will be installed at Islamabad International Airport to detect sudden changes in wind direction and speed, the PAA spokesman said.
The PAA said that the wind shear alert system will be installed at Islamabad Airport at a cost of Rs254 million.
The installation of the wind shear alert system at Islamabad International Airport is expected to be completed in six months, the PAA said.
Pakistan Airports Authority also signed an agreement to supply modern equipment for testing aviation radio systems. The new equipment will help improve the efficiency of the communication system between aircraft and air traffic control, the PAA spokesman said.
