DECLINE OF CRICKET

DECLINE OF CRICKET: Pakistan and West Indies cricket teams, once feared globally, now grapple with inconsistency. The West Indies lost their aura when they could not adapt to the modern professional era, relying too long on natural flair over fitness and technique. Pakistan appears to be on a similar path. The modern game demands mental fortitude and tactical sharpness, which seem to be lacking. Teams like England and Australia have revolutionised their approaches through data applications and specialised coaching. Pakistan must focus on its domestic structure and player development. We must decide if we want to remain nostalgic about the past, or build a future based on discipline and modern strategy.

EVOLVING TRADITIONS: Balochi culture is rich in traditions, colours and customs. However, within some tribal families, certain traditional ornaments or Balochi dresses are considered appropriate for girls only after their marriage. Upholding customs does not necessarily mean restricting individual preferences. Moreover, a person’s identity and choices should not be determined by their marital status. Traditional dress, jewellery, language and customs can be promoted as a source of pride while allowing young women greater freedom to express their cultural identity. The real strength of Balochi culture lies not only in preser- ving its traditions, but also in allowing those century-old traditions to evolve with due dignity and changing times.

PATIENTS ON THE FLOOR: I recently visited a government hospital and noted that the environment was not suitable for patients. Many patients were sitting on the floor in the outpatient department (OPD). There was much in the environment that could actually increase the risk of infections among the already suffering patients. The situation must change. The provincial government should make proper seating arrangements in the OPD area and improve the level of cleanliness.
