PESHAWAR: The district administration has imposed Section 144 for seven days, banning protests, public meetings, rallies, processions and sit-ins in view of security threats.
According to an order issued by the deputy commissioner, the restrictions follow reports from law enforcement and intelligence agencies warning of potential security threats to sensitive installations and major roads that could endanger human lives and public order.
The order prohibits gatherings of five or more people within the limits of Peshawar district. It also bans protests, sit-ins, rallies, processions and demonstrations.
The administration has also prohibited the display of weapons at public places, except for law enforcement personnel performing official duties.
The order further prohibits carrying pointed sticks, ball bearings, petrol bombs and other items that could be used for violence.
The restrictions will remain in force for seven days, unless the administration amends or withdraws the order.
Violators will face legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
