LAKKI MARWAT: Terrorists blew up a gas pipeline in Sherikhel area in Lakki Marwat district, police said on Saturday.

They said that terrorists had planted explosives near the main gas transmission line and triggered a blast in the jurisdiction of the Shahbazkhel police station.

Police said that the blast damaged the infrastructure and disrupted gas supply to the Punjab.

A heavy contingent of the police arrived at the scene and launched a search operation.

Meanwhile, the education department has decided to carry out furniture rationalisation after conducting physical examination of surplus or deficient furniture in government-run schools.

The decision was made at a meeting at the District Headquarters Complex, Tajazai with District Education Officer Meftahuddin in the chair.

Lakki SDEO Habibullah, Serai Naurang SDEO Muhammad Tariq, Ghaznikhel ASDEO Aqal Wazir, ADEO Secondary Jamshed Khan, ADEO Primary Kaleemullah, ADEO P&D Dr Ihsanullah and Assistant Director IT Abid Hussain attended the meeting.

Matters pertaining to construction of additional classrooms, furniture repair and rationalisation and replacement of blackboards with whiteboards were discussed at the meeting.

The participants also discussed matters pertaining to the engagement of hired teachers, updating profiles of employees and the ongoing school enrolment drive.

Mr Meftahuddin briefed the participants about the decisions made during a meeting held in Peshawar under the chairmanship of the provincial director of education.

He underlined the need for formulating a concrete and actionable strategy to implement the decisions in letter and spirit.

He directed the SDEOs to coordinate with ASDEOs and school heads under their respective jurisdictions to inspect all government primary, middle, high and higher secondary schools within their assigned clusters and circles to assess any surplus or shortage of furniture.

“In case surplus furniture is found dumped in schools, it will be provided to the needy institutions,” he maintained.

He said that the ASDEOs and school leaders would also collect accurate data on old furniture repaired out of PTC funds and replace blackboards with whiteboards.

He directed the SDEOs to provide accurate data of hired teachers with their bank account numbers to his office so that it could be forwarded to the higher authorities concerned without any delay.

He appreciated SDEOs, ASDEOs, school leaders and relevant officers of the district education office for successful achievement of the enrolment target and announced commendation certificates for them.
