Sometimes the nicest gifts are not the expensive ones. Even a small card or a handwritten note can make someone smile because you made it yourself.
Today’s craft is a simple greeting card with a surprise inside. It has a cute envelope on the front and a colourful one inside, filled with tiny hearts. You can make it for a teacher, a friend, a family member or anyone you want to send a little heartfelt wish. Let’s start:
Things you need:
- Coloured card paper (or chart paper in A4 size).
- Coloured paper pieces to make small hearts
- Butter paper
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Heart-shaped stamp
Directions:

-
Make an envelope from butter paper. Keep the square no more than 4 inches on each side. If you don’t know how to make an envelope, see Step 7 for instructions, but ignore the size mentioned there. Set the envelope aside; picture 2
-
Use a heart-shaped stamp to cut out small hearts from colourful pieces of paper; picture 3
-
Fold the card paper in half and open it again. Paste the small hearts at some distance from each other on the left flap; pictures 4, 5.
-
Cut a slightly smaller rectangle from any coloured paper and paste it on the other side of the card. This will make the envelope stand out; pictures 6, 7.
-
Apply glue to the corners of the back of the envelope and paste it diagonally on the coloured paper; pictures 8, 9.
-
Insert all the remaining hearts into the envelope and close the top flap; picture 10.
-
To make the envelope for the front of the card, cut a 3 × 3-inch square piece of paper. Fold one corner to the opposite corner, open it and then fold the other two corners together. Open it again. You should now have an X-shaped crease; picture 11.
-
Place the square with one corner facing up. Bring the two side corners towards each other and fold them in; picture 12.
-
Bring the bottom corner up towards the top, stopping at the horizontal crease; picture 13.
-
Bring the top corner down and secure it with glue. Paste the envelope on the front of the card. You can write a small loving message or something cute on a piece of paper and put it inside. Close the envelope with a small heart; see pictures 14 and 15.
