QUETTA: Chief Collector of Customs Enforcement (Operations), Islamabad, Muhammad Jamil Nasir Khan, has assured traders of Balochistan that legal trade will not face unnecessary restrictions and announced measures to accelerate Customs clearance and auction of seized goods.

Speaking at a meeting with representatives of the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he said Balochistan-related cases would be reviewed daily at the Central Assessment Unit from 5pm to 11pm.

He said that Customs operations would be automated within eight months to make cargo inspections and clearance faster and more convenient.

Quetta Chamber representatives highlighted serious problems confronting traders, including repeated inspections, unnecessary checkpoints and cargo vehicle fires.

They said that goods and vehicles worth billions of rupees had been destroyed at locations along Mastung Road and Ziarat Cross, with affected parties still awaiting compensation.

They also reported that between 3,000 and 3,500 cargo vehicles remained stranded, urging authorities to expedite clearance and auction of seized goods.
