Carec project reviewed

ISLAMABAD: A high-level meeting on Friday called for timely completion of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (Carec) international road project.

According to the Ministry of Communications, a joint meeting co-chaired by Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan and Energy Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari reviewed progress on the Rs140 billion Carec Tranche-III (Rajanpur-Dera Ghazi Khan-Dera Ismail Khan) project.

The session was convened at the request of Mr Leghari to review progress on the project, a press release said.

During the meeting, progress on all four lots of the project, aimed at improving connectivity among Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan and Dera Ismail Khan, was reviewed. The National Highway Authority chairman briefed participants on the overall implementation status.

The meeting also discussed matters relating to the Land Acquisition and Resettlement Plan, including land acquisition, resettlement of affected people and measures required to fulfil the Asian Development Bank’s requirements. Emphasis was laid on addressing outstanding issues and ensuring timely completion of the project, the press release said.
