RAWALPINDI: A nine-year-old girl student from Lahore was allegedly subjected to rape while visiting Rawalpindi with her grandmother to attend a wedding ceremony in Sadiqabad, police said.
A resident of Lahore registered an FIR with the Sadiqabad police stating that his two daughters had come to Rawalpindi along with their grandmother to attend the wedding ceremony of a relative on September 23.
He said that a few days after the marriage when his family returned to Lahore, his elder daughter, a grade 4th student who was memorising the holy Quran, narrated her ordeal to her mother. According to the FIR, the girl was asleep in her grandmother’s house when the suspect picked and took her to another room and sexually assaulted her.
She told her mother that when she woke up and tried to shout, the suspect put his hand on her mouth to keep her silent and also threatened to kill her if she informed anybody about the incident. Later, he allowed the girl to go back into the room.
The complainant said in the FIR that after his daughter’s complaint, they took her to a gynecologist who examined and confirmed that she had been subjected to rape. The gynecologist advised the family to take the girl to a government hospital for medico-legal examination to register a case with the police.
He said when the girl was asked by her mother why she had not told her grandmother about the incident, she said she had complained to her but the mother of the suspect, who is daughter of her grandmother, asked them to remain silent.
He said since his daughter was in Rawalpindi, the suspect continued threatening her and her grandmother and also warned not to tell her parents after going back to Lahore.
Due to the closure of roads between Lahore and Rawalpindi in the wake of the PTI protests, the complainant said he could not approach the police for the registration of a case.
Police have registered a case under relevant section of the law and launched an investigation. However, the suspect is yet to be arrested.
