RAWALPINDI: The district administration on Friday informed the business community that work was underway on projects to establish an industrial zone as well as vegetable, grain and livestock markets along the Ring Road.
Moreover, a proposal has been made to set up a facilitation centre at the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) to promptly address business-related issues.
Deputy Commissioner retired Captain Nadeem Nasir stated that the Punjab government had taken keen interest in promoting industrial and business activities in Rawalpindi, and the establishment of an industrial zone along the Ring Road was among the government’s top priorities.
“The district administration is taking all possible measures to facilitate the business community and foster industrial growth and investment,” he said.

He expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation from the RCCI. The delegation included chamber President Nosherwan Khalil Khan, Senior Vice President Waseem Aslam, Vice President Ikram Abbasi, former president Raja Aamir Iqbal and members of the executive committee.
The deputy commissioner remarked that the Ring Road was a significant development project and fostering industrial and commercial activities along its route will not only create new investment opportunities but also generate more jobs.
He noted that work was in progress on the relocation of the vegetable, grain and livestock markets to the vicinity of the Ring Road, while plans to upgrade the connecting roads linked to the Ring Road were also advancing.
The objective of these measures is to provide better facilities to citizens, traders and the business community, and to further streamline commercial activities.
He said the district administration and the RCCI should collaboratively establish a facilitation centre at the RCCI.
“This centre would devise an effective mechanism for the prompt resolution of issues faced by the business community and grievances received on a daily basis,” he said.
He added that legitimate concerns of the business community would be addressed on a priority basis.
The RCCI delegation appreciated the district administration’s initiatives to facilitate the business community.
The delegation welcomed the move to process no-objection certificate (NOC) matters within three days through a facilitation desk and the decision not to seal any business premises without prior authorisation.
The delegation remarked that the district administration’s measures would boost the business community’s confidence.
Discussions also covered issues concerning the Rawat Industrial Estate, establishment of an industrial zone along the Ring Road, the relocation of commercial centres, upgradation of connecting roads and strengthening cooperation between the administration and the chamber.
