KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that the provincial government is going to organise an investment conference in Shanghai on Oct 15.

Speaking at a press conference here on Thursday, he said a high-level delegation headed by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah is leaving for China.

He said that promoting investment in Pakistan with the cooperation of China would create new opportunities for the youth and provide employment opportunities in Sindh.

Talking about Thar coal, he said it had an important role in the country’s electricity generation. “Fourteen percent of Pakistan’s electricity generation is being obtained from Thar coal, while Thar coal has also resulted in savings of foreign exchange for Pakistan.”

The senior minister said that there was backwardness in Thar, but this did not mean that a child from the desert region could not secure top position in the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT). “The children from Thar who have passed the MDCAT can have their test conducted again by any impartial institution; the truth will become clear,” he said.

About the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), he clarified that the PPP would not have any kind of engagement with the opposition party in the elections.

He said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was sabotaging the province because of “his stubbornness and ego”.

He said that the biggest problem of KP at present was terrorism.

Mr Memon said that the PTI should think about what policy it had regarding terrorists and the Taliban.

“PTI will have to answer for the politics of supporting the Taliban and making peace with terrorists. PTI holds public meetings, processions and sit-ins, but no serious position against terrorism is visible. Where PTI has a government, why are effective measures not being taken against terrorism? PTI has never seriously explained how it will take action against terrorism,” he said.

In response to a question, Mr Memon said that the PPP wanted PTI to have political space, but “they themselves do not want it”.
