ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday directed all federal ministries to complete necessary measures within the stipulated time to provide relevant data to the Digital Nation Pakistan programme.

Presiding over a meeting here, the prime minister said the central, national-level data centre being established under the Digital Nation Pakistan programme would play a key role in delivering government services and public facilities.

He said assigning responsibilities to federal ministries and providing relevant data to the central data centre would bring the government system in line with modern requirements.

“The Digital Nation Pakistan programme is essentially aimed at ensuring efficient and convenient services for citizens nationwide,” he said. The sharing of data among institutions had played a key role in the successful implementation of the fuel subsidy scheme for deserving segments of society, he added.

He said the digitisation of the ministry’s performance and relevant data was also important in curbing corruption and institutional mismanagement.

PM Shehbaz also welcomed the introduction of QR codes to ensure the supply of quality medicines across the country.

The meeting was told that digitisation in key public-service sectors, particularly health and agriculture, was being completed on priority basis to facilitate the masses.

The IT ministry, in coordination with the ministry of law, was also taking special measures to make relevant national laws available at a single platform to provide better guidance for future legislation, officials said.

Work on digitising priority sectors was continuing in line with the prime minister’s directives, with special measures being taken to promote digital government services, a digital economy and digital public facilitation, the meeting was told.

A detailed briefing was also given on the provision of health ministry data to the central data centre and the use of digitisation to verify the quality of medicines.
