SAHIWAL: Police have registered a case against 15 members of an alleged land mafia and arrested nine of them for attacking a police team at village 174/9-L on Wednesday night.

Reports said Ghaziabad Police Sub-Inspector Asghar Ali, ASI Muhammad Ashraf, Lady Constables Nida Amna and Amina Aslam, and driver Constable Muhammad Mubashir rushed to the village in an official vehicle after receiving a 15 call.

Qasim Masih, a resident of 174/9-L, had called the police, alleging that a land mafia group had occupied his ancestral house.

When the police team reached the spot, alleged land mafia members — Qasim Masih, who was reportedly armed with a pistol, Aslam, Sajid, Mohsin Aziz, Irshad Bibi and Asia Bibi, along with four unidentified women and four unidentified men — confronted the officials.

The women allegedly attacked the lady constables and tore their uniforms. Constable Mubashir’s purse, containing Rs35,000, was allegedly snatched, while SI Asghar’s mobile phone was also taken and later smashed by the assailants.

The police team called for additional force to control the situation. The Elite Force personnel reached the spot, brought the situation under control and dispersed the crowd.

Later, Ghaziabad police registered a case under sections 148, 149, 379, 506, 186 and 353 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of SI Asghar Ali.

Nine suspects, including four women, have been arrested.

Police are investigating the incident.

RIVALRY: Two rival gangs clashed and allegedly launched a murderous attack on a medical store owner and his associate over an ongoing litigation rivalry.

Shopkeepers Sadi Ahmed and Abrar Hussain were shot at and seriously injured in the attack.

Reports said an ongoing rivalry between the Mansha Gang and the Mansoor Gang has developed over a number of court cases. Members of the Mansha Gang allegedly suspected that shopkeeper Abrar Hussain had filed cases against them and was pursuing the litigation.

On Wednesday morning, Sadi Ahmed and his cousin Abrar Hussain were travelling to the town on a motorcycle when armed assailants allegedly attacked them.

The attackers were identified as Zafar Dhoni, Imran, Irfan, Nasir, Amin, Hanif, Maqbool, Shahbaz and two unidentified men, along with Mansha Gang leader Mansha. Mansoor Gang leader Liaqat Norez was also allegedly among the attackers.

The assailants allegedly beat Sadi Ahmed and Abrar Hussain with gun butts, breaking their legs. While fleeing, Maqbool fired at Abrar Hussain with a pistol, seriously injuring him.

Police reached the scene after receiving a ‘15’ emergency call, but the attackers had escaped. The injured men were shifted to hospital, where Abrar Hussain’s condition was stated to be critical.

Farid Town police registered a case on the complaint of Sadi Ahmed under sections 341, 149, 148, 324, 337 and 337-F2 of the PPC and launched an investigation.

Police have arrested seven members of the two gangs in connection with the incident.
