Former Pakistan Under-19 captain Hassan Khan has been drafted into the United States squad for the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series against the UAE and Namibia, according to Cricbuzz.
The left-arm spinning all-rounder has replaced fast bowler Ali Khan, who has been ruled out with a hamstring injury.
Hassan, who turns 28 on October 16, will make his first senior international appearance nearly a decade after leading Pakistan at the 2018 Under-19 World Cup. That squad also featured future Pakistan internationals Shaheen Shah Afridi and Musa Khan.
Once regarded as one of Pakistan’s promising young cricketers, Hassan saw his opportunities at home limited after making sporadic appearances in the Pakistan Super League. He subsequently moved to the United States, where he rebuilt his career through Major League Cricket.
Playing for the San Francisco Unicorns in the 2024 MLC season, Hassan scored 204 runs at an average of 40.80 and a strike rate of 143.66, besides taking 10 wickets.
He continued his strong form in the 2025 season, scoring 225 runs at a strike rate of 187.50 and hitting 17 sixes. Across the two MLC seasons, he accumulated 429 runs from 262 balls, including 30 sixes.
His performances also earned him opportunities in the Big Bash League, ILT20 and Caribbean Premier League.
Hassan returned to the PSL in 2026 with Hyderabad Kingsmen, scoring 139 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 195.77, with a highest score of 33 not out. He also claimed six wickets during the tournament.
The USA will hope Hassan can make an immediate impact as the team prepares for the World Cup Qualifiers in February, Cricbuzz reported on Wednesday.
