LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday directed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Rao Abdul Karim to produce an allegedly abducted girl by Wednesday (today).

Chief Justice Aalia Neelum passed the order hearing a petition filed by a Faisalabad resident, Sadia Hussain, who alleged that her daughter had not been recovered for two years despite police assurances.

The police chief appeared before the court in compliance with its order.

“IG Sahib, what is happening under your command?” the chief justice asked, questioning what the police department had been doing for the past two years.

The chief justice also warned against a situation where people might start taking matters into their own hands instead of relying on the police.

The petitioner submitted that the police had assured the family that the girl would be recovered but failed to honour its own commitment.

Chief Justice Neelum ordered the IGP to ensure the girl’s recovery and produce her before the court on Wednesday (today).

The other day, the chief justice had rejected a request by the petitioner’s counsel to withdraw the petition and summoned the IGP.

actor’s sister case: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday set aside a sessions court’s decision ordering registration of a case against the sister of actor Momina Iqbal on the complaint of PML-N MPA Saqib Chadhar.

Justice Abher Gul Khan announced the reserved verdict on a petition filed by Rimsha Iqbal, the sister of the actor and a lawyer by profession.

During the earlier hearing, a counsel for MPA Chadhar told the court that Rs8 million had been deposited with Rimsha Iqbal’s bank account on different occasions.

The judge asked whether the money had been given as a loan or deposited as a gesture of friendship.

The counsel replied that Rimsha had planned to travel abroad and the money had been deposited to meet the bank statement requirement. He also claimed that actor Momina Iqbal had been engaged to MPA Chadhar.

The judge further asked whether any written agreement or documentation had been prepared regarding the money transferred to Rimsha.

The counsel said the money had been given to her in trust and was not a loan.

On the other hand, Rimsha contended that the money in question had been withdrawn from her bank account in 2022 and returned to the MPA.

She said the sessions court passed the impugned order beyond the facts of the case.

Justice Gul allowed the petition and set aside the decision of the sessions court.

MPA Chadhar is facing an inquiry before the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency on charges of causing online harassment to actor Momina Iqbal.

wheat support price: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday sought replies from the Punjab government and other authorities on a petition seeking announcement of wheat support price.

Justice Ahmad Nadeem Arshad heard the petition filed by Kissan Board Pakistan President Sardar Zafar Hussain, challenging the government’s failure to fix support price for the commodity.

A counsel for the petitioner submitted that the government had neither announced any wheat policy, nor fixed support price, leaving farmers in a state of uncertainty.

He contended that the government’s failure to announce the policy and the support price could discourage farmers from cultivating wheat, resulting in a reduction in the area under wheat cultivation.

The counsel asked the court to direct the government to fix Rs5,000 per 40kg as wheat support price.

After hearing the arguments, the judge issued notices to the government and other respondents, seeking their replies to the petition.
