GUJRAT: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested a former manager operations of a private bank for defrauding account holders of Rs7 million.
A senior FIA official told Dawn that Raja Parvez Akhtar, a former operations manager of the Gujrat branch of the bank, had been involved in withdrawal of Rs7m through fake signatures and bypassing the authentication process of cheques from various account holders. He had fled and was later declared a proclaimed offender.
The FIA circle of Gujrat traced and arrested him.
Moreover, a three-member gang was found involved in illegal confinement of a youth in Cambodia on the pretext of sending him to Australia after taking Rs1.8m.
The FIA Sialkot circle arrested three suspects, Mushtaq, Aleem and Shahbaz, for the fraud. They had sent the youth to Nepal and later shifted him to Cambodia where he was kept in illegal confinement. The suspects demanded Rs650,000 more from the victim’s family for his release and his return.
Meanwhile, the Gujranwala FIA zone claims to have arrested 10 human traffickers during a crackdown.
