Shayan, Meer, Zain cruise into next round

KARACHI: Shayan Afridi, Meer Bhagat and Zain Nomi registered convincing victories in the opening round of the boys’ Under-18 singles of the National Seniors and Juniors Tennis Championships at the Karachi Club on Tuesday.

Preezeh Haroon fought back to defeat Ariana Raheel in a three-set thriller in the girls’ Under-18 singles quarter-finals, while Anaya Khan advanced with a straight-set victory. In the boys’ Under-12 quarter-finals, Ibraheem Hussain Gill and Rahim Faisal also progressed.

Boys’ U-18 singles (first round): Shayan Afridi (KP) bt Mohammad Umer 6-1, 6-0; Meer Bhagat bt Rayan Zubair 6-1, 6-2; Zain Nomi bt Abdul Rafay 6-0, 6-0

Boys’ U-12 singles (quarter-finals): Ibraheem Hussain Gill (Lahore) bt Naayed Sohaib 4-0, 4-0; Rahim Faisal bt Kiyan Akber Ali 4-0, 4-0

Girls’ U-18 singles (quarter-finals): Preezeh Haroon bt Ariana Raheel 4-6, 6-4, 7-5; Anaya Khan (Islamabad) bt Zohha Imad 6-1, 6-3

Girls’ U-14 singles (first round): Ariana Raheel bt Anaya Farhan 4-2, 4-0

Girls’ U-12 singles (first round): Dua Yousuf bt Hanah Muddasar 4-1, 4-1

55-plus doubles (first-round): Altaf Hussain/Kar­im Gul Agha bt Essa Jee/Altaf Aziz 8-0; Razi Nawab/M.A. Saeed bt Amir Suleman/Tahir Farooq 8-0

Ladies’ singles (first round): Ayla Benazir bt Iqra Ali 8-2.
