KARACHI: The judicial commission, formed to investigate the circumstances and possible negligence in the Mir Raza Ali murder, on Tuesday recorded the testimonies of three witnesses.

Two journalists had informed the one-man commission headed by Justice Omar Sial of the Sindh High Court about suspicious vehicles roaming in the area around the crime scene at the relevant time and a watchman deposed that he saw two cars near the crime site before the incident.

Journalists Babar Saleem and Saulat Jafri said that as per the CCTV footage, the vehicle of the victim was being followed by another car which was eventually stopped outside a guest house near the crime scene.

While giving a presentation about the movement of vehicles aligned with the map of the area, they also maintained that a suspicious Alto and a motorcyclist were also seen moving around the area in question on July 28 and July 29.

They submitted that the police had mishandled the case while false reports were run in the media that the victim’s family was indebted to the tune of Rs80 million as in fact the family had suffered a loss of Rs35 million.

The counsel for the aggrieved family informed the commission that as per police, the people in the same vehicle had come to the guest house to resolve a dispute while as per the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), Raza was in contact through iMessage till 4:25am on July 29.

Mohammad Riaz also turned up before the commission and testified that he was working as a watchman at a house located near the crime site.

He also deposed that two vehicles were seen near the crime scene at around 3:30am on July 29 and one of the cars had attempted to move upwards and in the meanwhile a motorcyclist had also passed through the area.

The watchman further said that he had never seen these vehicles before in the area. The counsel for the family submitted that they had provided the registration number of a suspicious vehicle to the police and the same was found registered in the name of one Tariq and its tax has not been paid for the last couple of years.

The commission will record the testimonies of the investigating officer of the case, DSP Siraj Ahmed Lashari, and assistant chief operations/complaint resolution centre of CPLC Kashif Iftikhar on Wednesday (today).
