UNITED NATIONS: Ambassador Ernest Gross, Deputy Chief US delegate to UN, said on Thursday [Oct 5] that the Kashmir dispute between Bharat and Pakistan is “potentially the most dangerous of all”. He said he hoped it would not get lost “in headlines on the arrival of Iran’s Premier, Dr Mossadeq”. Mr Gross made the comment during a discussion with UN correspondents of Middle Eastern and Far Eastern situations.

Meanwhile, it appeared unlikely that the Security Council would have time to take up the Kashmir question this month as had been originally scheduled. Britain’s urgent request for action in the Iranian case displaced Kashmir from October’s agenda and now it is hoped the dispute will be considered in Paris in November.

The report of the UN Representative, Dr Frank Graham, on three months of attempts to bring Bharat and Pakistan together on the issue of demilitarisation in Kashmir which would serve to open the Council debate is now ready and expected to be made public soon. — News agencies
